WOYWW

It has been a while since I have participated in WOYWW (What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday) but now that I am in the thick of doing art again I thought I would contribute. It's a mess but I got really inspired last night and left everything to dry overnight without cleaning up!

The large journal is for the 2015 Documented Life Project and the smaller journal is my regular art journal. Now that I have started using that larger Dylusions journal for the DLP I am liking the bigger size. 

Both of these are backgrounds for the Jodi Ohl's Pod-tastic class I have signed up for. Eventually they will be covered up with strange looking doodled pods and smoothed out backgrounds. I will post those when I get them done.

A lot of orange!

This long weekend is turning into a lot of orange!

I checked Swap-bot and found a couple of new swaps for orange postcards and ATCs and then realized it was Monday and I wanted to post a photo for Mandarin Orange Monday and there it was, all over my work desk (to which I may also add a link on Wednesday for WOYWW)! *** Edited on Wednesday: I added it!

The cards are collaged bits of gelli printed deli paper onto yet more gelli printed card stock. I collaged it then cut into 2 postcards and an ATC for the swap. Now I will add more bits to them and maybe some doodles to get them ready to send out. You can see my still orange brayer and bits of gelli printed deli paper (I may start calling that GPDP for short!) in the background...

Makes me want to run to the store and buy some orange juice!!

WOYWW #213

I didn't manage to keep going with this linky in June because I was gone for a couple of weeks, and then for the next 2 weeks I will be gone again (I love summer vacation!), but here is one WOYWW entry in between! A little late in the day but it is still Wednesday here!

I realized I needed to get started on the weekly Summer of Color entry (this week is pale pink and charcoal grey) so I started by getting out the trusty gelli plate and making a couple of pink pages. I used some bubble wrap to get the textures. I made a deli paper page and a couple of pages in my 2 current art journals.

Not sure yet what I will do for the grey part but I will think of something!

Well my workdesk is a big mess today! Partly with things I haven't put away yet from my trip, and partly from some spur of the moment ideas I had to do (like yesterday afternoon making a page with the current colors of paint I am drawn to). There is a new lavender eye pillow for yoga class (they smell so good at the studio I thought I would get my own to also have at home). And the usual newsprint paper for under my work that always ends up so brightly colored from gelli print brayers, Oh and some buttons I want to sort through to give to my sister to make button fairies.

WOYWW #207

Well I totally flaked out about it last week and didn't take any pix of my workdesk for the WOYWW linky party! That is what the end of school days does to me! 2 more weeks and then 10 weeks of vacation! Then next year is my last year at work! Not that I don't love what I do but it is TIME to retire!

So last night I was looking at all the stuff from that watercolor class last weekend and decided to take a photo of one of the techniques I hadn't shown already. And before I go on I want to say: I HATE THE NEW FLICKR INTERFACE!! Takes a LOT longer to get my photos to blog!

This is what we did: made an abstract watercolor and let it dry. Then we took a small frame (a card with a hole cut in the middle). We cut out three areas that we liked in the abstract.

And then he gave us blank cards (from Kelly Paper) and we glued the swatch on and voila! A mini-painting!

These are the only 2 brushes we used in the class! I love how the calligraphy brush held the paint -- might look into getting other sizes of it.

I have been working on some painting and art journaling the last few days so my work table is scattered with those things. Well, it is rather neat now because I put a ton of stuff away this last weekend so I could actually GET to the table!

And of course my favorite part of the newsprint pad is the random color that is left behind...

I have been into circles again lately... (various WIP)

The art journal pages were both basically the same at first then I changed the left one to see what would come through when I painted over all the doodling and stuff underneath... I like where it is taking me.

The last couple of nights I have been reading a lot of art blogs (in a never-ending attempt to catch up!), watching videos from various online classes I am in, and pulling out the watercolors to try a couple of techniques and play a bit.

So this is what is on my desk today until I have more time to do more watercolors. This is from a VIDEO I saw from Whitney Ferre (one of the 21 Secrets teachers but this was a separate video on You Tube), where you just doodle or scribble with watercolors. It is so out of my box that I am trying it just to see if I can do it. My first instinct is to grab the markers and go that route, so these last couple of nights I have been playing with the flow of watercolor, looking for a more zen-like approach.

Anyway, my desk as I last saw it while I pondered my results...

WOYWW #201

WOYWW stands for What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday, a long running linky party I recently discovered. And it is really cool to see what other people are either working on or their work areas. Mine is a little more together this week than the last time...

Last weekend I reorganized my pens so I have many containers like this at the far edge of the table:

I had them upright before and not only were the cups always falling over, but I keep reading how it is better to store pens (marker type pens) horizontally so I brought home some small plastic bins I no longer used at school and repurposed them for my pens. I had been using them for desk baskets at school and had bought a dozen or so many years ago but I use something else now so they were just in my cabinet.

And then of course... there are the white pens... do I have too many? LOL (the answer would be "no, one can never have too many white markers/pens" in case you were wondering!)

And the also on my worktable at the moment: a journal page I just have color on so far...

And finally I decided this heart painting needed a quote and I think I have found the one for it, from "The Little Prince". Now I just have to decide how I will do the words, hand lettered or as collage to make it more multi-media. I will work on it this weekend when I have time. But here it is with just a printout of the words for layout so far:

That was actually the point of my photo!

Ok, it's a mess, but I took this photo partly to link to a What's on your Workdesk Wednesday and also (big pointy arrow here) to remind myself that the newsprint pad under my work often gets really cool looking and I should use it instead of throwing it away. And sometimes I don't remember things like that until I focus on them. So right after I took this photo I tore off the paper and set it aside!

Thursday morning update: I had forgotten I had used a piece of my newsprint work paper in a journal a couple of months ago and loved how it turned out...
